Fundraiser being organized to benefit family of Sergio Aleman

MILWAUKEE -- A fundraiser is being organized to benefit the family of fallen Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Sergio Aleman.

Aleman was killed in a July 31st crash on Interstate-43 near downtown Milwaukee. His service vehicle rear-ended a flatbed tow truck -- and Aleman died of his injuries a while later.

Now leading the charge to make sure Aleman's family is not left high and dry is former Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputy Christopher Adams. He's organizing a benefit to honor the legacy of Aleman, a close colleague.

"Our goal is $50,000 for the family. I know it's a big goal, but I said 'You know what? I'm gonna set the bar high, and make the community meet me there,'" Adams said.

The benefit will be held on Sunday, September 2nd at Clifford's Fine Food on Milwaukee's southwest side. It'll be a 12-hour affair and feature food, drinks, a silent auction and live music.

"Sergio -- he'll be very well-missed. He'll never be forgotten. We wanna do something in tribute, to let his family know that this will continue -- that the brotherhood doesn't stop because he's no longer with us," Adams said.

Fellow Milwaukee County employee, District 12 Supervisor Peggy Romo West is also getting involved with the effort to publicize the Aleman benefit.

"This tribute, and this fundraiser, is a great way for us to show the Aleman family that we love them," Romo West said.
