Zoo a la carte finishes up at Milwaukee Co. Zoo

MILWAUKEE--You know the rule, don't feed the animals! This weekend, there was a lot of eating happening at the Milwaukee County Zoo, but it was the visitors that were doing the snacking.

It's an exciting experience for every kid.  Seeing a cheetah up close, an elephant just feet away and penguins swimming in a nearby pool.

"The look in his eyes is priceless," dad Chris Kuechler said.

Among the more than two thousand animals, a treat for mom and dad.

"It's great for the kids, it's great for the parents, it's good food, good fun and great weather on top of it," dad Ryan Smale said.  He brought his two kids to the Zoo a la carte event.

Twenty-eight restaurants are stationed throughout the zoo and they're cooking up foods of every flavor.

"We come out here for the food, we come out here for the fun," Kuechler said.

It is the largest fundraiser for the zoo.  All of the proceeds from the event go directly to the animals.

"Whether it's health programs, general maintenance, food, things like that, it all benefits the animals," Milwaukee Co. Zoo public relations coordinator Jennifer Diliberti said.

The event wraps up Sunday at 8 p.m.
