Milwaukee Wave players play volleyball with their feet!

MILWAUKEE -- People can't help but stop and stare when Milwaukee Wave soccer players hit the nets at Bradford Beach. They've put their own unique spin on the game of volleyball in preparation for their upcoming season.

"I wasn't quite sure what was going on. I didn't even know what sport they were playing," spectator Bobbi Jean Shepp said.

Adding some soccer flare to the game of volleyball, the guys began playing what they call "FootVolley." Unlike volleyball, in this game you can't use your arms or hands!

"It definitely builds strength and stamina in your body and technical ability. You have to be able to pass the ball and knock the ball and use your head to get the ball over (the net)," Milwaukee Wave Coach Keith Tozer said.

"FootVolley" originated in Brazil. Because several of the Wave players are Brazilian, they decided to make Bradford Beach their own Copacabana.

"Once we got to the beach and started to play with the guys -- it feels a little bit like you`re in Brazil," Milwaukee Wave player Hewerton Moreira said.

It also makes for great practice for the upcoming season.

"Just to run in the sand makes me so much quicker for when the season is going to start. Overall it`s great for my game," Milwaukee Wave player Marcio Leite said.

Many beach-goers that stumble across the spectacle were left in awe.

"It`s really entertaining. It looks like they are having a lot of fun and they are surprisingly doing really well keeping the ball off the ground," Shepp said.

Even though Wave players had fun at the beach, they're even more excited to hit the field this fall to defend their title.
