83-year-old woman may face charge for spitting incident

GRAND CHUTE -- Police are recommending an 83-year-old woman who spit on another woman at a political rally face a disorderly conduct charge in Outagamie County.

The Appleton woman (a protester) interrupted Republican state Sen. Alberta Darling during a rally last week to ask about Republican opposition to Planned Parenthood.

A woman standing next to the protester chided her in a loud voice to “wait until she’s done. Zip it. Zip it.” The protester then told the woman to get out of her face, and then spit on her.

If the DA's office says "no" to the charges recommendation, it will become a municipal ordinance charge which carries a $277 fine.

No charges are being filed against the woman who hit the protester.
