Marquette basketball coach Buzz Williams suspended

MILWAUKEE -- Marquette University head coach Buzz Williams will serve a one-game suspension on a violation committed by assistant coach Scott Monarch.

Monarch has been fired by the university after he repeatedly lied to department administrators.

Williams has accepted a one-game suspension for the team's first Big East conference game in recognition of his duty to monitor his staff.

Williams' assistant, Monarch, provided team-issued apparel and transportation to a prospective recruit.

The program will have its official recruiting visits reduced for the next calendar year. The penalties are self-imposed as part of Marquette's report to the NCAA.
