(CNN) — Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Monday, August 27th he will not attend this week’s Republican National Convention, one day after declaring a state of emergency as Tropical Storm Isaac.

The storm is expected to turn into a hurricane and hit the Gulf Coast within the next two days.

“I will not be speaking or attending the Republican Convention in Florida. Certainly party conventions are interesting but there is no time for politics here in Louisiana along our coast,” Jindal said at a press conference.

The two-term governor was set to speak in Tampa, Florida on Wednesday, according to the event’s schedule. This marks the second convention in a row Jindal will have to skip. In 2008, the Louisiana governor stayed home while Hurricane Gustav slammed into New Orleans.

“This storm is like every other storm. It is nonpartisan. This is a time when we all need to come together, fight the storm and work hard to protect our families and our property,” Jindal said. “After we’ve had time to get back on our feet there will be plenty of time to talk about politics and political speeches.”

Jindal isn’t the only member of the Louisiana delegation not attending the convention. Jefferson Parish President John Young canceled his plans due to the potential impact Isaac could have on his constituents. State Rep, Lenar Whitney and New Orleans public service commission member Eric Skrmetta are currently driving back to Louisiana as well.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Saturday night that all programs for Monday, the first day of the convention, were canceled.

CNN’s Adam Levy contributed to this report.
