Back-to-school Tuesday for most Milwaukee-area students

MILWAUKEE -- Tuesday, September 4th marks the first day of school for many students in the Milwaukee area, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and MPS Superintendent Gregory Thornton joined State Superintendent Tony Evers to ring the bell on the first day of school.

The event will took place Tuesday morning at Gilbert Stuart School on 86th Street in Milwaukee.

This year, the district is offering some new programs, partnerships and some new locations for schools. The district is also offering a new school, Howard Avenue Montessori, on the city's south side.

Milwaukee Public School District students start school Tuesday, and they are encouraging parents to submit back-to-school photos -- whether it's buying school supplies, teachers preparing classrooms for the new year or a first day of school photo!
