Members of 1982 Packers team at Lambeau Sunday for 49ers game

GREEN BAY -- The Green Bay Packers take on the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, September 9th in their first regular season game at Lambeau Field. The countdown to the game is on, and there's a pre-game surprise for fans -- the chance to meet some Packers' legends!

To call Bart Starr a Packers legend may be an understatement.

"He was the first one to take us to a super bowl, win two super bowls. The best is the best," Don Peterson of Minot, North Dakota said.

The 78-year-old is back in town for the Packers opener, signing autographs and posing for pictures.

Packers fans will have the chance to show their true colors as part of the first "Tide Green and Gold Out."

All fans who attend the Packers game against the 49ers will receive a free T-shirt to wear during the game -- uniting a sea of fans in a beloved Packers green and gold.

It's a show of support that won't be lost on the players.

"The fans do a great job bringing the energy into the stadium when there is a big play made, you feel the extra energy. Keeps the momentum going," Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson said.

The home opener is also the annual alumni game. 31 members of the 1982 team will be featured, including coach Bart Starr, quarterback Lynn Dickey and kicker Jan Stenerud.

"When you can be with those with whom you've played or coached anytime, it's a joy," Starr said.

It's a joy for fans as well, and even current players are Starr-struck.

"It's an honor. It's a privilege. You're kind of speechless," Nelson said.

Starr says after 50-plus years of being associated with the team, he is the lucky one.

"It's meant everything. I wouldn't trade it for anything," Starr said.
