Paul Ryan takes questions from voters in De Pere
DE PERE -- Republican vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan answered questions of Wisconsin voters Wednesday, September 12th during an hour-long town hall meeting in Brown County.
Ryan was back in Wisconsin for the third time since being named to the GOP ticket by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Ryan held a town hall meeting in De Pere Wednesday, where he took question from voters but also had a question for them. The banner at Ryan's appearance said: "Are you better off," and Ryan had a direct answer for that question.
"We can do better than this. President Obama is putting us on the wrong track," Ryan said.
One of the state's top Democratic lawmakers, Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca, said the country's economic situation has improved and is in better shape than it was in 2009, when President Obama was sworn into office.
"Four years ago, our economy was in as deep a recession as we've faced since the Great Depression," Barca said.
Meanwhile, Ryan pointedly criticized Obama's leadership -- both in fiscal policy and in foreign affairs.
"We do not want a world climate where our adversaries are so tempted to test us and our allies are worried about trusting us," Ryan said.
Ryan took questions from those in the audience Wednesday. Many questions centered on economic, fiscal and monetary issues. Ryan was asked directly if he has a timeline to fix the fiscal crisis.
"The answer is yes. It's called a budget. We're going to have one and we're going to pass it, because there's an actual deadline in law," Ryan said.
Barca blasted Ryan for lacking specific solutions.
"The American people are looking for answers more than anything else, and I'm glad Paul Ryan's here because he's got some explaining to do, as Charlie Brown would say to Lucy. They have not been specific at all," Barca said.
Ryan's next stop is Owensville, Ohio. Thursday, his direct competitor, Vice President Joe Biden is set to visit Wisconsin for a campaign stop in Eau Claire.
