Woman blames gambling addiction for convenience store embezzlement

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (AP) -- A woman who admitted stealing more than $1 million from her employer has been sentenced to a year in jail in Wood County.

Forty-two-year-old Bonnie Hartle told a judge that she spent all the money she had taken from Weiler Convenience Store in Marshfield because she has a gambling addiction.

The Auburndale woman pleaded no contest Tuesday, September 18th to 25 charges. Prosecutors say Hartle began stealing from Weiler in 2000.

She was granted Huber privileges in order to pay back the $1.3 million she's accused of taking.

Hartle will also serve 30 years of supervised release.
