6-year-old boy dies in Milwaukee house fire

MILWAUKEE -- A 6-year-old boy is dead after two homes are engulfed in flames. It happened in the 3200 block of N. 23rd St. early Saturday morning.

Police say the fire may have started after a babysitter left something on the stove.

"It`s just a shame, a young child loses his life-like in a situation like that," neighbor Kelly Powell said.

Police say the babysitter and three children made it out of the home safely.

Neighbors watched as firefighters fought the flames.  Thick smoke blanketed the block for hours.  Firefighters lined the street and emergency lights illuminated two homes engulfed in flames.

Family says a man was in the other home.  He made it out safely after his dogs awoke him.

"I'm just glad he was able to get out and he wasn't hurt," family member Jennifer Spencer said.

Milwaukee police and fire department are investigating an official cause of the fire.
