Wisconsin man finds 1.22 carat diamond in friend's well

ST. CROIX COUNTY -- A Wisconsin man reportedly found a 1.22 carat diamond in his friend's well!

Dan Fagnan says he was given the opportunity to pan through a wet pile of rocks and sand taken from about 120 feet below the surface, and spotted a tiny rock he first thought was just a piece of glass.

Fagan took the stone to a jeweler, and owner Karen Greaton determine it was a diamond.

Greaton said the stone was likely pushed south from Canadian volcanic activity and was left in Wisconsin after the Ice Age.

Fagnan said he now plans to have Greaton's designing jewelers place the stone in a necklace for his soon-to-be-born child. The diamond won't be cut because 60% of the stone would be lost.

Greaton says her jewelery designer plans to place the diamond into a three-dimensional cage.
