Gov. Walker calls for tougher domestic violence laws after salon shooting

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- One week after the deadly shooting at the Azana Salon & Spa in Brookfield, Gov. Scott Walker says Wisconsin needs to tighten its domestic violence laws.

On NBC's "Meet the Press,'' Walker said the state didn't do enough on the local level to enforce domestic violence laws, and didn't do enough to stand up for victims.

Last Sunday, October 21st, Radcliffe Haugton shot seven women at the Azana Salon & Spa. Three died, including his estranged wife, Zina, before Haugton killed himself.

Over the past decade, police were repeatedly called to the Haughton's home where they investigated possible domestic violence, but no arrests were ever made.

Gov. Walker did not say what he wants changed, but said efforts to make the laws stronger need to come from local, state and federal levels.
