Admirals drop matinee to the Griffins, 4-2

Grand Rapids, MI – Jon Blum and Juuso Puustinen each scored their first goals of the season for the Admirals, but it wasn’t enough as they dropped a 4-2 decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins in a school day game on Wednesday afternoon in Grand Rapids.

The Admirals have now alternated wins and losses in each of their last five games and have yet to win consecutive games on the season.

The two teams alternated goals over the first two periods with the Griffins striking first at the 13:54 mark on a Ryan Sheahan shorthanded goal, the third allowed by the Ads already this season.

However, just two minutes later Milwaukee struck back with a five-on-three power-play goal from Jon Blum, who ripped a slapper past Griffins goalie Petr Mrazek for his first of the season. Taylor Beck and Mattias Ekholm picked up the assists on the play.

Francis Pare gave the Griffins the second lead of the day at the 6:15 mark of the second period, but once again Milwaukee responded. This time it was Puustinen who tallied his first goal of the season with 7:22 to play in the second with assists to Jack MacLellan and Austin Watson.

Grand Rapids took their third and final lead of the game on a power-play goal from Joakim Andersson at the 11:28 mark of the third and then added an empty netter from Gustav Nyquist with 30 seconds left.

The Admirals return to home ice on Friday night, November 9 when they play host to the Chicago Wolves at 7:00 pm. It is the team’s annual Veterans’ Day Game where all veterans and active military personal receive a free ticket with proper identification.
