Funerals held for three Racine children killed in house fire

RACINE -- Funerals were held on Friday, November 16th for three children who died in a Racine house fire.

Nine-year-old Dayja, 8-year-old Dalija and 7-year-old Michael Scott were eulogized Friday morning at Mount Eagle Baptist Church in Racine. Deborah Scott's fourth child, 5-year-old Luther, remains hospitalized with injuries from last week's fire.

Lashunda Anderson and her children were among the loved ones paying their last respects.

"They left such a great impact on my kids, being their sister and brother almost every day. They came home talking about them, they had something good to say about them," said Anderson.

Anderson says she is just fortunate her kids had a chance to know the Scott children.

"One thing I can say is they knew them before they left and had tremendous great fun with them," said Anderson.

Mourners embraced each other and shared condolences. Classmates and teachers coped with their pain by sharing memories.

The new Golden Gate Funeral Home donated the cost of the funerals. The children's uncle, William Scott, says the support is helping the family through a difficult time.

Investigators say the fire was sparked by a candle in the bathroom of the home.
