Milwaukee police say suspect in custody for assault on Oak Leaf Trail

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say they have arrested the man they believe physically assaulted a woman on the Oak Leaf Trail on Wednesday, November 14th.

Police had released a sketch of the suspect, and had asked for the public's help in locating him.

Law enforcement sources told FOX6 News Sunday the 41-year-old suspect confessed to the crime. FOX6 News has learned the suspect has a history of legal problems that date back to the late 1980s.

In 2012, Shorewood police arrested the man for trespassing and theft. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge, and served two-and-a-half years in prison.

Additionally, this man has five different domestic violence charges dating back to 1989. In both 1993 and 2003 he had restraining orders filed against him, and he reportedly violated a restraining order in 1994.

The man has yet to be formally charged for this latest crime, so FOX6 News is not identifying him.

Police say the victim was running on the northern end of Lincoln Memorial Dr. around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday when the man approached her on a bicycle. He grabbed her, fondled her and then ran away when she fought him off.

Police are expected to release additional information in this case on Monday, November 19th.
