Milwaukee Press Club panel addresses issue of unemployment

MILWAUKEE -- In Milwaukee, the unemployment rate stands around 6.3%. That's slightly higher than other Wisconsin cities.

On Tuesday, November 27th, the Milwaukee Press Club addressed the issue.

A panel of experts gathered to figure out where the problem is, and how to fix it. According to experts, jobs are available in the Milwaukee area -- especially in manufacturing. The problem is, many workers don't have the necessary skills to fill these jobs.

"Everyone at the tables today from the manufacturers, to the states, to the universities, we all understand recognize that we do have to fill the skills gap.  The only way were going to do it is by finding pathways for students to get to the careers that are out there," UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell said.

Another item of discussion Tuesday was changing the stigma that comes with manufacturing jobs and showing students that not all manufacturing jobs are created equal.
