91-year-old man dies after being struck by motorist

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say 91-year-old Howard Roepke was struck by a motorist just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 28th near Logan and Oklahoma. He died from his injuries.

An investigation report released by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office on Thursday indicated Roepke got off the the bus and attempted to cross the street. Witnesses say he was not in the crosswalk -- and crossed at an angle. Roepke was using a walker.

When Roepke stepped off the median, he was struck by a car. The driver remained on the scene -- and told authorities he did not see Roepke until he struck him. The driver was not arrested, and officials say they do not believe alcohol nor speed were factors in this accident.

Roepke was apparently attempting to cross the street to go to the Unity Lutheran Church for the free meal served to seniors.
