Red carpet rolled out for Stars and Stripes Honor Flight screening

MEQUON -- The red carpet was rolled out Thursday night, November 29th in Mequon for a screening of the Honor Flight film. Thursday night's screening was an advanced screening before the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight makes its statewide release.

The film shows World War II veterans' trek to see their memorial in Washington, D.C.

On Thursday night, the red carpet was rolled out for the greatest generation.

87-year-old Harvey Kurz said he was feeling like a celebrity during Thursday night's screening. He was joined by other World War II veterans Julian Plaster and Joe Demler, who were featured in the film.

Demler is about to turn 87, but says he, like many other veterans, didn't share stories of war and bravery -- and how he and others came through during the country's most desperate hour.

Thursday night's screening was sold out, as 400 gathered at Marcus Cinema's UltraScreen in Mequon to see the hero's journey of World War II veterans and their trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

"I had to ring out my handkerchief three times because whenever I see a World War II Memorial -- the one with the flag raising, I got to cry," Kurz said.

Kurz said every time he sees the film is emotional -- as it is the story of the price of freedom and a reminder to always say 'thank you' to those who give their lives for this country.
