Physicians taking the lead during "Movember"

WAUWATOSA -- You've probably seen many grow them this month, and you ask, "what's with the mustache?" It's "Movember," a movement to promote prostate and testicular cancer awareness, but also to raise money for the disease.

Whether they're pencil thin, a Fu Mancu, or somewhere in the middle, these mustaches all have one thing in common. They're mustaches of urologist from the Medical of Wisconsin, and they're part of a team, "Mo'Staches, Mo' Lives."

"All of us in our department are very passionate about prostate cancer and treating prostate cancer as well and treating the patient," said Dr. Khanh Pham, who started the team and persuaded the rest of the staff to grow mustaches. It's part of worldwide movement called "Movember," where people raise awareness and money for research and screening for prostate and testicular cancer.

"Breast cancer is out there and as it should be but men's health initiatives are kind of still lagging behind I think," said Dr. Justin Benabdallah.

The Medical College of Wisconsin says one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Hundreds of thousands of new cases will diagnosed, and 28,000 will die.

"I think that in itself is enough to warrant some kind of dedicated month," said Dr. Pham.

The mustaches grown by physicians have drawn lots of attention among the medical college, and even if you can't grow a mustache, people were still willing to donate.

"I love it, I'm a big fan, I've always liked facial hair so I'm all for this I'm actually sad to see November go," said Dr. Tonya Davis.

Whether they plan to shave it, or keep it, this team of urologists will continue to raise money for cancer into December.
