Wave topples the Blast, 14-9

MILWAUKEE -- The Wave was looking forward to the return home after two straight losses, one a 15-4 defeat courtesy of the Baltimore Blast. After a sluggish first half, the Wave used seven 2nd half goals to come out with a 14-9 win.

Although the Wave dominated the time of possession and seemed to be taking shot after shot, nothing could find the net. The Soul got on the board first after a Wave penalty on Tom Oatley they capitalized with a power play goal from Bato Radoncic. The Wave had opportunities of their own after 2 penalties on the Soul, however they failed to take advantage and as the quarter came to an end the Soul put another one in the net, this time a 3-pt goal by Cuitlahuac Meza. Heading into the half the Wave faced a 5-0 deficit.

The Wave hoped to get things going right away in the 2nd half, but early on Evan McNeley received a red card and was ejected from the game for violent conduct. The Wave continued to play hard and Tom Oatley finally put one in the net cutting the lead to 5-2. A penalty on the Soul followed the goal, as Bato was given a yellow card for returning to play too early. The Wave kept the pressure on in the 3rd as Nick Perera trimmed the deficit to one and soon after Luan Oliveira gave the Wave a 6-5 lead heading into the final quarter.

The 4th quarter began were the 3rd left off, Luan Oliveira scoring another goal, extending the Wave’s lead to 8-5. The Soul wouldn’t go down without a fight as Radoncic countered with his second goal of the game making it 8-7. The Wave however made sure the Soul couldn’t regain the lead, as Marcelo Fontana, who made his return to the team in tonight’s game, scored to give the Wave a 10-7 lead. This was quickly followed by a score from Pablo, extending the team’s lead to 12-7. In need of some scoring the Soul put in a 6th attacker and it paid dividends as Alex Megson found the back of the net making the score 12-9. However, the Wave secured the win as Jonathan Greenfield scored, giving the Wave a 14-9 victory.

The Wave plays at home next Saturday at 3 p.m. against Rochester.
