Public meeting held on Marquette Interchange re-striping project

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) invited the public to attend a meeting to talk about the planned changes in the west leg of the Marquette Interchange.

The meeting was held at the WisDOT SE Region Downtown Office at 1001 St. Paul Ave. in Milwaukee from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11th. Displays were on site to show the changes that are planned.

Last summer, when engineers became concerned about how drivers were merging over two lanes of traffic in a short distance, they made some changes -- altering the 794-94 junction, which involved striping off one of the lanes on 794 as it dumps drivers onto 94.

That means three lanes of traffic now filter into one, so commuters deal with major traffic jams on a daily basis.

The new project will add an auxiliary lane of traffic to allow for the second lane of traffic to be reestablished along I-794 westbound.

The work will begin in spring 2013 and is targeted for completion in May of 2013. DOT employees will be available to discuss the project.
