14-year-old boy accused of murder to learn whether he'll stand trial

MILWAUKEE —  A  14-year-old Milwaukee teen accused of shooting and killing Dennis Smith Saturday, August 18th near 24th and Keefe is waiting to learn whether he'll stand trial in the case.

Three detectives and Milwaukee County's Medical Examiner spoke in front of a judge on Wednesday, December 12th.

The teen is charged with first degree intentional homicide. He is being tried as an adult, but the judge asked FOX6 News not to identify him.

The criminal complaint against the 14-year-old boy  indicates Smith was arguing with two people just before 10:30 a.m. that Saturday. During the altercation, someone gave Smith a gun “which he waved around” and then put in his waistband.

The complaint says after the argument was wrapped up, the 14-year-old boy was seen running through a nearby vacant lot towards Smith. He grabbed a gun and apparently yelled, “You robbed my brother G-Rod,” and began shooting Smith.

A witness statement to police says the 14-year-old “kept shooting and may have shot eight to 10 times and that he ‘showed no mercy’” to Smith. Another witness says the 14-year-old emptied the clip in the gun he was holding.

An autopsy on Dennis Smith shows he suffered at least 23 gunshot wounds.

If convicted, the 14-year-old Milwaukee faces up to life in prison.
