13-year-old from Waterford recovering after hit-and-run incident

WATERFORD -- Two weeks ago, a 13-year-old from Waterford was in critical condition after he was run over and left for dead. Now, he's back on his feet and back in school, and he's sharing with FOX6 News what little he remembers from the incident that left him critically injured.

Brandon Stock says he remembers little from the night of December 11th. He was walking home from a choir concert at the Waterford Library when police say a drunk driver hit the eighth-grader, sending him 20 feet into the air.

Stock was left with a fractured fibula, a concussion and some scrapes on his back and hands.

Stock's good friend, Tatiana Mosconi spent the next few days in Stock's hospital room.

"I just started talking to him, telling him things were gonna be okay and that he was gonna be okay, and he just hummed and that's it -- like 'mmmhmm' at me," Mosconi said.

Two weeks later, Stock says he feels much better. Helping to improve his mood is a collection of cards and well wishes sent his way by friends and classmates.

"It showed me how much people cared about me that I didn't even know," Stock said.

Police say the driver, 28-year-old Jacquelyn Esser was charged with OWI and hit-and-run causing injury. Stock said he isn't sure whether he wants to attend her court hearings.

Stock says he knows he is lucky to be standing before Christmas.

Stock's family says they're grateful for the people at a restaurant across the street from the library. They say staff ran out to help Stock and divert traffic until police arrived at the scene.
