Communities gear up to do battle with a snow storm

MILWAUKEE -- Municipalities have their plans in place. Now, they're asking drivers to do the same -- as a snow storm bears down on southeast Wisconsin.

The storm is being closely monitored by people like Larry Neitzel, operations superintendent for the Brown Deer Public Works Department. Neitzel says his half-dozen drivers and their snow plows are ready to roll.

"Communities prepare for this type of storm. What we'd like to have the public know is what they should be doing for the storm," said Neitzel.

Neitzel says his crews can get their job done quicker and easier if people stay off the roads. If not, drivers are strongly encouraged to stay at least 75 feet away from the snow plows.

"These men have a lot of controls in the truck, in front of 'em, watching the plows that they have on the trucks, with the other traffic. So they have quite a bit that they have their attention on," said Neitzel.
