MILWAUKEE — A commercial airplane carrying around 150 passengers returned to the terminal Sunday morning, December 23rd at around 9:30 a.m. after experiencing a mechanical problem.

Mitchell International Airport officials say during takeoff, one of the plane’s engines began to smoke and the plane was forced to stay on the ground. The plane taxied back to the terminal on its own.

The plane was Delta flight number 921 taking off from Mitchell Airport and heading to Minneapolis.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene including the Cudahy Fire Department, Milwaukee County Airport Fire Department, and the City of Milwaukee Fire Department.

Milwaukee responders were soon called off the scene due to the situation being under control.

A Delta spokesperson told FOX6 News no one was hurt, and all passengers were redirected to other flights.
