Benjamin Sebena faces life in prison in murder of Wauwatosa police officer

WAUWATOSA -- 30-year-old Benjamin Sebena of Menomonee Falls has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon in the murder of his wife, Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena.

Benjamin Sebena made his initial court appearance on Thursday afternoon, December 27th. Bail was set for Sebena at $1 million.

The criminal complaint in the case indicates Jennifer Sebena was shot multiple times in the face. Her body was found just outside the back door of the Wauwatosa Fire Department located at Underwood Avenue in Wauwatosa. 

Jennifer Sebena was found dead on Christmas Eve, December 24th. Her body was discovered early in the morning when she failed to respond to a summons for duty by dispatch while patrolling alone.

The criminal complaint in the case indicates Jennifer Sebena had told an officer at the Wauwatosa Police Department that she had been the victim of domestic violence by her husband, and that he had "put a gun to her head."

The criminal complaint in the case indicates Benjamin Sebena told officials he had been jealous of other men in regards to his wife, Jennifer. 

While at the police station, Sebena was heard saying things to the effect of, "she was helping me, how could I do that to her?"

Benjamin Sebena later confessed to the crime to police, according to the criminal complaint. Sebena told officials he had been stalking his wife for several days. He said on December 24th, he waited for her in the area of Underwood Ave. and when she emerged from her break inside the fire department, he opened fire. 

Benjamin Sebena told officials Jennifer moved as though she was reaching for her firearm, but Benjamin Sebena took her firearm from her holster. He then shot her in the face with her service weapon -- according to the complaint.

Benjamin Sebena told officials "he wanted to make sure she was dead, so she wouldn't suffer."

On Wednesday, December 26th, officials executed a search warrant at the Menomonee Falls home Jennifer and Benjamin shared. They discovered a hole had been punched through drywall by a person's fist, and also discovered a box of ammunition with cartridges missing, contained within a handgun case. Officer Sebena's service weapon was discovered in the basement, and a handgun was discovered in the attic of the home.

Benjamin Sebena faces life in prison if convicted.
