Homicide suspect arrested following tactical situation in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say a man they arrested after a six-hour tactical situation on the city's north side is a homicide suspect wanted for the murder of Eddie Taylor.

30-year-old Corey Long was holed up in a duplex just east of 42nd and Sherman in Milwaukee starting around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, December 28th.

Long allegedly killed Taylor near 39th and Fond du Lac Ave. back on December 10th.

On Friday morning, Officers approached the duplex near 42nd and Sherman. Long was there and ran inside the home. The other people in the building were able to get out safely.

"Police were knocking at the door I'd say about 3:30 this morning. Banging at the door actually and asking about moving the cars," said Linda Rankin.

Officers needed the room for their mobile command center and tactical vehicles.

Later, police appeared to fire tear gas into the home. MPD negotiators eventually convinced Long into surrendering.

Officials say this standoff never became violent. Nobody was hurt.
