Jennifer Sebena remembered as a caring, vivacious person
WAUWATOSA -- Wauwatosa Police Officer Jennifer Sebena will be laid to rest on Saturday, December 29th. She was gunned down on Christmas Eve morning. Her husband, Benjamin, is now charged with her murder.
The funeral of Sebena will be held at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield. There will be an estimated 700 to 1,000 squad cars from across the region making their way to the funeral, which begins at noon on Saturday. Those squads will then form a procession to Wisconsin Memorial Park.
Officer Sebena's closed casket will be draped in an American flag. A portrait of the 30-year-old will be resting to the side.
A Facebook site honoring Sebena's memory is quickly filling with pictures of her past job at U.S. Cellular and memories of the vivacious, caring person others remember her as.
Teens from Elkbrook Church held a fundraising bake sale for Sebena, the youth leader they loved. They hope to raise money for funeral expenses. Kristen Overstreet talked to her mentor, Jennifer, just last week.
"She was always there, praying for us, helping us with anything and that was awesome. She taught us how to follow God but also how to go through life the happiest. She always had a smile on her face," said Overstreet.
People also stopped at the Piggly Wiggly store in Hartland to bring more bakery. Some donated without taking treats. Maggie Ross remembered the time Jennifer Sebena got her through the death of a friend. Now, she will use the advice to help her through Jennifer's death.
"Saying it was going to be okay. Somebody dies and you'll make it through. Now each one of us have a little bit of her that will go on and change somebody else's life because she changed ours so much," said Overstreet.
Other police departments in southeast Wisconsin will help staff Wauwatosa Police on Saturday. That's so that Wauwatosa officers can attend the Sebena funeral.
Once again, services will be held on Saturday, December 29th at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield (777 S. Barker Road). Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and run through noon, with a service immediately following. Internment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park (13235 W. Capitol Drive) in Brookfield.
