Racine man charged for 8th OWI, hit-and-run

RACINE — 58-year-old Cruz Castro of Racine is facing one count of operating while intoxicated, his eight offense, and one count of hit-and-run. This, after he allegedly struck another vehicle head-on on High St. while intoxicated.

According the criminal complaint, Castro was traveling on High St. on January 3rd around 5:07 p.m. when he struck another vehicle head-on while turning onto Edgewood Ave.

Castro was transported to to All Saints Hospital in Racine for a legal blood draw and  standardized field sobriety tests. The field sobriety tests were conducted at the hospital due to weather conditions.

If convicted, Castro faces up to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
