Man accused of breaking into officer's home, stealing electronics

RACINE -- 30-year-old Rudy Talavera faces a criminal charge of burglary for allegedly breaking into a police officer's home and stealing electronics.

The criminal complaint against Talavera indicates he entered a home through a patio door on LaSalle St. in the city of Racine around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2nd. Talavera is accused of taking an Apple laptop computer, iPhone, iPad and wireless keyboard from the home before fleeing.

The complaint indicates that the officer was able to track his stolen phone through an Apple application on his father's iPhone. Once the phone was turned on, the app was able to tell police the phone was near St. Mary's Hospital in Racine. A short time later, the complaint indicates officers spotted a car that matched the location of the phone.

The complaint says inside the car were Talavera and another woman. Before police approached the car, the woman took a pink bag with the stolen items and tried to hide them behind a building. That's when police apparently approached the car and placed Talavera in handcuffs.

The complaint indicates that a search warrant was executed on Talavera's apartment. Inside, investigators found several flat screen televisions in the living room/kitchen area. One of the TVs was still inside the box. There were also numerous electronic items in the apartment -- which were collected into evidence.

If convicted, Talavera faces up to 12-and-a-half years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
