Mystery statue joins Bronze Fonz on Milwaukee's River Walk

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Most Milwaukeeans know of the Bronze Fonz sculpture that stands on the Milwaukee Riverwalk, just south of Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee -- but on Thursday, January 10th, a new statue was discovered near the Bronze Fonz and where it came from is a bit of a mystery!

The Bronze Fonz statue depicts Henry Winkler as the Happy Days TV show character Arthur Fonzarelli, also known as the Fonz. Fonzie stands in his typical costume, which consists of a leather jacket and jeans and is giving a two-handed thumbs up.

Happy Days, which aired in the 1970s, was a sitcom about a family in 1950s/1960s Milwaukee.

On Thursday, just feet from Milwaukee's Bronze Fonz rested a ceramic sculpture. The sculpture depicts a man clad in a blue shirt and tie. His face features a stiff upper lip and harsh features. The most unusual part of the art is on the statue's chest, which features an impression or tattoo, revealing a kind of hammer time.

Many passersby were perplexed by the Bronze Fonz' new friend!

"I've never seen anything like this here before. I'm not sure about this one," one passerby said.

"Looks like he's up to no good. He's looking for Fonzie's approval or something like that," another passerby said.

Without an author or title, the Bronze Fonz' neighbor was called by some "The Blue Who."

"I thought the restaurant here had it for some reason. It doesn't look like it fits the theme of a Chinese restaurant! Doesn't look like he had a good Chinese meal -- that's for sure!" another passerby said.

For now, the name, creator and reason for the art remains a mystery.

One Milwaukee alderman told FOX6 News he hadn't heard of any plans to put another statue on Milwaukee's Riverwalk, and said if this was done without proper planning, he wants it removed.
