'Defeat Hunger Bowl' scores points at Greenfield Walmart

GREENFIELD (WITI) -- On game day, the store aisles are packed and the shopping carts are filled with food.

As shoppers make their way through the Greenfield Walmart for the perfect Packers party, the make a stop at a table to help those in need.

"We have to help feed the hungry," shopper Delores Hall said.

The help comes in a small blue bag.  It cost less than $5 and is filled with non-perishable food items.  It is part of a campaign put together by Feeding America and Walmart called the Defeat Hunger Bowl.

"We have a lot of children who need food and adults," Hall said.

The bags are sold at 55 area Walmarts.

After the holidays donations have a tendency to dwindle," Kathleen  Fugler of Feeding America said. "We`re really looking for those basic needs like pasta, peanut butter , cereal.  Just  good quality food we can give to families in need."

Outside of the Walmart store, there was another way to help.  The grill was fired up and filled with brats.  One by one, the shoppers wait to buy food and soda.  All of the money goes toward Feeding America.

"It`s a tough economy out there.  People struggle everyday, we live paycheck to paycheck, so it`s our little part in how we can help the world," Walmart store manager Joe Shavlik said.

The Defeat Hunger Bowl continues through February 10th.  It is sponsored by the Packers Jermichael Finley and FOX6.
