Hwy. 142 in Kenosha Co. closed due to fatal crash

KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- Highway 142 in Kenosha County was closed Wednesday evening, January 16th in both directions due to a crash. The crash occurred just after 4:30, and four people were injured -- one was killed.

The crash shut down a portion of 142 between West Frontage Road and County MB.

Officials say 42-year-old Karrie Holmes from the Town of Paris driving a black Ford Edge attempted to turn left into the driveway at 12900 Burlington Road.

A white Hyundai Elantra driven by 38-year-old David Westover of the Town of Wheatland was also eastbound.

Westover rear ended the Ford and slid sideways into the oncoming (westbound) lane of traffic.

The Hyundai was then struck in the driver’s side by a westbound Jeep Cherokee that was driven by 50-year-old Kellye Diem of Franksville, WI.

Westover was ejected and killed.

Diem was seriously injured, but the injuries are not life threatening.

Holmes was injured, but the injuries are not life threatening.

There was also a 14-year-old male passenger in the Ford and an 11-year-old female passenger in the Ford.  The passengers were transported to the hospital as a precaution, but were not injured.

At this time it is believed that the cause of the crash is inattentive driving by the driver of the Hyundai, but a cause for the inattentive driving is not known.

The crash remains under investigation.
