Loved ones gather to remember murdered rapper Evon Young

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- As the rain beat down on a Milwaukee street corner Tuesday evening, January 29th, it failed to drown out the sounds of those grieving the loss of 22-year-old Evon Young.

Dozens joined together Tuesday evening for a vigil in Young's honor. For a few, the feelings of loss were too heavy to bear.

Milwaukee police say five people with gang ties played a role in the brutal torture and ultimate killing of Young. Prosecutors believe the rapper who went by the name Yung LT got into an argument and that led to a beating and fatal shooting.

Police say Young's body was dumped into a trash bin and burned.

For the second day on Tuesday, investigators searched the Menomonee Falls landfill where Young's remains may reside. So far, cadaver dogs have found false leads, but the methodical and time-intensive recovery effort continues.

That effort is watched by friends and family, all struggling with an unthinkable crime and hoping investigators can find their loved one and help them find closure.
