Neenah teacher resigns after sending pictures of students to prison inmate

NEENAH (WITI) -- A second grade teacher in Neenah is out of a job and accused of sending pictures of her students to a prison inmate.

The package was intercepted in a prison mailroom.

Prison officials say it contained several pictures of students and staff at the school. Guards then searched the inmate's cell and found more pictures.

Prison officials called the school and removed Christina Peereboom from her classroom. She later resigned.

"She made a very poor judgment in sending these pictures to an incarcerated individual and from my perspective could have placed our students in danger," Dr. Mary Pfeiffer with the Neenah Joint School District said.

Pfeiffer says none of the images showed students in an inappropriate manner. Pfeiffer also says the inmate and the teacher were friends for many years.

He is in prison for second degree intentional homicide.
