Sheboygan Fire Dept. battled structure fire Sunday night

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- The Sheboygan Fire Department responded to the scene of a structure fire Sunday night, February 3rd.

According to fire officials, the occupant of the structure discovered smoke in the basement and called officials shortly before 9 p.m.

Upon arrival, authorities quickly discovered that the fire was located in the basement of the property next door. According to officials, the building is a side-by-side structure that shares a common center wall.

Fire suppression efforts were immediately directed to the next door basement. Officials say fire crews encountered difficulty in exposing the fire in the ceiling and walls.

The fire was extinguished and under control by 9:48 p.m.

The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the occupants of the upper apartments as they were temporarily displaced from their homes.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
