Business Journal: Could Betty Brinn Children's Museum move?

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6's news partners at the Business Journal are reporting the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum is considering a move to developer Rick Barrett’s Couture development from its current home attached to the O’Donnell Park parking structure in downtown Milwaukee.

The Children's Museum could occupy about 45,000 square feet on the Couture’s third, fourth and fifth floors and would face East Michigan Street.

The Couture project is proposed to replace the Downtown Transit Center at the corner of Michigan Street and North Lincoln Memorial Drive. The 44-story building would have a hotel and apartments on its upper floors, but retail and other public spaces on its lower floors.

Colin Hutt, a board member for Betty Brinn, said the Couture is among options museum officials are exploring for new space on the lakefront. He said it is possible the museum could remain in O’Donnell Park.

The museum leases 25,000 square feet in O’Donnell Park, which Milwaukee County owns. Museum executive director Fern Shupeck told The Business Journal in August 2011 that Betty Brinn was outgrowing its space and was open to a new, larger location.
