Police investigating two separate incidents on Water Street early Sunday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two people were hurt in two separate incidents on Water Street in downtown Milwaukee early Sunday morning, February 24th.

Around 2:45 Sunday morning, police say a 25-year-old Franklin man was crossing the intersection of Water and Juneau against a red light. He was hit and suffered serious injuries.

Milwaukee police say during this investigation, an officer's squad car was struck by an alleged drunk driver as he sat in his squad.

"It was terrible. I'll never get the image and sound out of my head," Jacob Leszczynski said.

Leszczynski says he saw the whole thing from his apartment overlooking the corner of Water and Juneau.

Police say the driver, a 25-year-old Milwaukee woman remained at the scene. She was not arrested, nor did she receive any citations -- though officials say the investigation is ongoing.

Shortly afterwards, police were controlling traffic a block away at the intersection of Highland and Water Street. That's when MPD says a 22-year-old West Allis man hit one of the squad cars with his pickup truck.

A 33-year-old officer was inside the car at the time. He was treated and released at a hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck was arrested on charges of causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

Sunday afternoon, few traces of the accidents remained at the scene, but Leszczynski says the images he saw will stay in his mind for a long time.

"When you hear a car accident, you hear the clash of two cars hitting each other. This was just a thud, just a noise, but it was loud. Like a thud and a crunch at the same time. It was terrible," Leszczynski said.
