Woman killed after being struck by a vehicle on I-43

WAUKESHA CO. (WITI) — A crash temporarily forced the closure of all lanes of southbound I-43 near Racine Ave. in Waukesha County on Saturday morning, March 2nd.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m.

Upon the initial investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriif’s Department, it appears a 54 year old woman from the City of Waukesha was an occupant in a disabled motor vehicle that was parked on the outside shoulder of I-43.  The woman had walked across the traffic lane when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

First aid was rendered by responding law enforcement officers and the City of New Berlin Fire Department personnel. The 54 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the crash was cleared from the interstate and traffic was flowing freely.

The accident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department.
