10,000 free tax returns filed, still time for more

MILWAUKEE (WITI) --  With the tax deadline less than a month away, one social service agency is offering to do your taxes, for free!  The Social Development Commission says they have already filed 10,000 federal and state forms.  The group held a Super Saturday event this weekend.

"We'll go back five years, we're here to help.  We'll take out time, we have a lot of volunteers here that are eager to help," says Latoya Jones who works for the Commission.

SDC says any one whose  annual family income does not exceed 56-thousand dollars is eligible.  Last year, the agency helped residents collect more than 13-million dollars in refunds.

"You come in they treat you really well, they are very nice, I come every year," says Regina Johnson who attended the super Saturday event.

"I'm glad that it's free because I don't like to spend money to get my taxes done.  I mean I'm giving my money all year long, and getting my money back I don't want them to take a chunk out of it just to get my taxes done."

SDC says to do your taxes, all they need is your income documents, social security card, and a photo ID.  There are tax preparation times in several locations as many as 6 days a weeks.  CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO
