Operation Drive Sober results in weekend arrests of 17 drunk drivers

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — At the start of this year, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke ordered an aggressive weekend Driving Under the Influence (DUI) initiative to rid the Milwaukee County freeway system of drunken drivers.

This weekend’s initiative resulted in the arrest of 17 drunk drivers.

Three of these were repeat offenders:

  • 48-year-old Raymond Schaefer (4th DUI)
  • 27-year-old Keaton Wigdal (3rd DUI)
  • 37-year-old David Schwenn (2nd DUI)

An underage drinker, 19-year-old Kirsten Reichard of West Allis, faces DUI-1st and also felony charges for fleeing from a deputy and recklessly endangering safety.

On Saturday, March 23rd at about 2:15 a.m., a deputy saw a vehicle deviating lanes on I-43 southbound at Howard Avenue.  He stopped the vehicle at Howell and Howard avenues.

Raymond Schaefer tested a .15 on a PBT test and was arrested for DUI-4th.   His prior convictions were in January, September and October 2004. He faces up to one year in jail if convicted of this misdemeanor fourth offense.

At about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, a deputy attempted to stop a driver who was deviating lanes on I-43 southbound at Burleigh Road.  The driver, 19-year-old Kirsten Reichard of West Allis, hit the median wall on three occasions and continued to disregard the emergency lights and siren of the squad.  Other deputies joined in the nearly four-mile pursuit, with the subject vehicle’s speed varying from 20mph to 80mp before finally stopping in a construction zone at I-43 and Chase Avenue.

Reichard did not respond to orders to get out of the vehicle, and deputies removed and handcuffed her. She was found in possession of THC.  The Sheriff’s Office will seek charges of Felony Fleeing (WI Statute 346.04(3)) and Recklessly Endangering Safety-2nd Degree (WI Statute 941.30 (2)).

  • 29-year-old Nicholas Barrale of Milwaukee
  • 26-year-old Jeffrey Schultz of Milwaukee
  • 61-year-old Gary Moore of Milwaukee
  • 25-year-old Pao Xiong of Milwaukee
  • 69-year-old Marine Braun of Cudahy
  • 23-year-old Jessica Bielski of Cudahy
  • 31-year-old Jeremy Rajchel of Brookfield
  • 35-year-old Shelby Milczarski of Oak Creek
  • 24-year-old Christina Li Ting of Wauwatosa
  • 23-year-old Steven Holverson of Stoughton
