Sheriff's deputy hurt after squad struck by minivan on I-43N

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Officials were on the scene of a crash involving a Sheriff's squad on I-43 northbound near Center Street that occurred Wednesday afternoon, March 27th.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was called out to the scene shortly after noon on Wednesday to investigate the crash.

Officials say the deputy was stopped with another vehicle. Not long after the deputy released that vehicle, he was in his SUV, and while still on the shoulder, he was struck by a minivan.

The minivan driver and a witness said a driver in the center lane unexpectedly swtiched lanes, and that caused the minivan to take evasive action and swerve onto the shoulder. The minivan attempted to stop, and the State Patrol found skid marks on the road.

The deputy complained of neck and back injuries and was taken to Froedtert Hospital. His name has not yet been released.

The minivan driver was not injured.

This incident remains under investigation.
