Adult, child in custody in connection with Cedarburg daycare case

CEDARBURG (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned an adult has been arrested in connection with Cedarburg daycare case involving allegations of sexual assault. The adult was arrested for violation of mandatory reporting of an offense against a child.

"I think it's disgusting that they kind of turned their head and pretended it wasn't happening," said a 26-year-old mother who had sent her two sons to Family Tree Learning Center.

The mother, who did not want to be identified, felt as though her children were being loved and watched after at the facility.

Her opinion has changed dramatically after learning that a 12-year-old boy is accused of multiple counts of first degree sexual assault. Juvenile court records show the child was placed in secure detention on April 21st.

A four-year-old child said the older boy touched his private parts, gave him candy, and told him to keep it a secret.

Cedarburg police and child protective services told this mother not to question her children about the suspect because it could jeopardize the investigation. Officers plan to interview both of her children.

The mother says her three-year-old spent a lot of time with the child in question, and she worries her son may also have been victimized.

"In the last couple months, he used to love going to daycare. He started telling me, like crying in the morning that he didn't want to go, that he hated daycare," she says.

The mother notes obvious changes in her three-year-old's recent behavior such as wetting himself during nap time and acting angrier than usual.

"It's just pretty frustrating to not know if anything happened. All I want to do is ask them," she says.

The 12-year-old suspect will be in court May 3rd for a plea hearing. We are awaiting word on when the adult suspect may be charged or appear in court.

Cedarburg police say they have reached out to 20 to 30 other parents looking for possible victims. They will be interviewing more children next week.

The daycare center closed last week after voluntarily turning over their license.
