Corrections officer arrested for possession of marijuana

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a corrections officer was arrested for possession of marijuana.

It happened during a traffic stop on Monday, May 13th just before 8:00 p.m.

Officials say they observed an occupant throw a baggie out of the window. Officials noted a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle when they approached.

An officer retrieved the baggie and found that it contained two corner-cut baggies of marijuana, weighing 1.1 grams.

The passenger, 23-year-old Leon Martin of Milwaukee admitted it was his.

Martin is a correctional officer at the Milwaukee County Jail, still on his six-month probationary period and faces termination.  An internal investigation will be conducted by the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office.

Martin was given a municipal citation for possession of marijuana.
