Recovered reptiles now getting care at Racine Zoo

RACINE (WITI) -- FOX6 News gets a first-hand look at the care being given some reptiles recovered from a Kenosha home. They're now being cared for at the Racine Zoo.

The reptiles include a crocodile, alligators and a 150-year-old snapping turtle. Zookeepers say the conditions the animals were being kept in were terrible. In the case of the snapping turtle, it was being kept in a tub barely larger than its body.

Keepers at the Racine Zoo says even more reptiles are being kept in quarantine. They include five rattlesnakes and a poisonous lizard known as a Gila Monster.

Kenosha police found all of the reptiles on Monday, May 13th inside a home near 53rd St. and 14th Ave. The reptiles were removed from the home by the Racine Zoo and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

In the backyard of the Kenosha home, police say they found a dead alligator, burnt snake and deer carcass.

So far, there have been no arrests in this case.
