Glendale man robbed at gunpoint after trying to sell car on craigslist

GLENDALE (WITI) -- Glendale police say a Glendale man tried selling his car on craigslist, when three men showed up to his home, and one pulled out a gun.

Police are investigating the armed robbery that occurred in the 6400 block of Garden Grove Lane Monday night, May 13th.

Police say the victim listed his car, a '89 Chevrolet Camaro on craigslist for sale. He agreed to meet with three men that night to show them the car.

Police say the seller let two of the men into his home after looking at the car to discuss financial terms, at which point police say one man pulled out a semi-automatic handgun on the victim and demanded his keys, wallet and cell phone.

Police say the victim tried to fight the men off, and was injured when he fell down some steps. He suffered minor injuries to his face.

Police say the suspects then fled from the scene with the victim's keys and cell phone.

Police describe the suspects as:

Suspect #1: black male in his 20s, 6'0" to 6'3" tall, with a slim build

Suspect #2: male, possibly Hispanic or lighter-skinned, 5'10" to 6'0" tall

Suspect #3: No valid description

The getaway vehicle is described as a white Honda CRV.

Glendale police say this crime is unique. While they have had several buyers get robbed after being lured to a location through craigslist, a detective says this is the first time he can recall a seller being strong armed in his home.

Craigslist reminds users doing business with strangers to insist meeting in a public place, and to be especially careful while buying or selling high-value items.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Glendale police.
