Powerball jackpot worth $590 million creates lotto fever

MEQUON (WITI) -- The Powerball lottery created quite the stir on Saturday, May 18th. That's in large part because the winning jackpot was nearly $600 million.

The winning numbers drawn Saturday were: 10, 13, 14, 22, 52 and the Powerball was 11. If nobody wins the big prize, the estimated jackpot for the next drawing could approach $900 million.

Earlier on Saturday, a steady stream of people kept cashiers busy at the Kwik Trip on Cedarburg Road Saturday.

The jackpot is the second largest in Powerball history. The only two prizes that were larger were both claimed last year. Those hoping for instant riches already knew how they'd spend their new found fortune.

"I'd get an unlisted number, drop that, and drop out of sight for, eh, two or three months," said Bob Walerstein, "Then I'd come back and I don't know, but some stuff for some friends, whatever."

Others had charitable intentions.

"I plan to, I wanna open my own community center for at-risk youths, mentor youth sports in the city of Milwaukee," said George Johnson.

The odds of winning the grand prize are slim at best: one in 175 million. However, smaller prizes can also be had. If a player matches the five white balls but misses on the powerball, they win $1 million. The odds of that happening are better but still slim: one in five million. But being a long shot didn't deter those dreaming of that $600 million jackpot.

"$600 million, imagine what I could do with that," Johnson said, "My family would never need anything for the rest of our life."
