FOX6 Web Fix: Koi fish worth $1600 stolen from UW-Madison campus

MADISON (WITI) -- Something fishy happened last week at the University of Wisconsin-Madison -- literally. Authorities are currently tying to solve the mystery of the koi fish caper.

According to police, eight koi fish were stolen from the campus' Botany Gardens last Thursday or Friday. The fish are worth approximately $1600 and are roughly a foot-and-a-half long. They have nested in the pond for more than 10 years.

It is unlikely that other animals were the cause of the fish's disappearance.

"It looks like someone was pushing the fish to the corner and scooping them out," said an employee at the University. "So we lost 8 of those kois."
