Tammy Baldwin to visit Gateway Tech, Xten Industries in Kenosha

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin will visit Gateway Technical College and Xten Industries in Kenosha on Wednesday, May 29, 2013.

Baldwin will tour Gateway’s Integrated Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (iMET) Center, which includes the region’s first flexible manufacturing lab dedicated to training the manufacturing workforce.

The iMET Center also offers short-term, customized, modular and bootcamp training in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) operations, industrial maintenance, robotics, welding and fabrication, in addition to industrial trades apprenticeship training.

Baldwin will also visit the Horizon Center for Transportation Technology where the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3), an organization of educators and business leaders, provides students access to industry driven certifications is the areas of transportation, aviation, manufacturing, and energy.

Baldwin will also visit Xten Industries where she will learn about the workforce training partnership recently established between Gateway Technical College and Xten. The partnership includes a training program that brings Gateway instructors to Xten in an effort to increase efficiency in Xten’s manufacturing process.

Xten has also contributed funding for a new manufacturing lab and an endowed scholarship at Gateway to help promote manufacturing and address the problem of finding skilled labor. Baldwin will also tour Xten’s community garden, a partnership with Harborside Academy that allow students to learn sustainable living practices and get hands on experience growing and managing an organic community garden.
